About Us
Inception Digital Services ("IDS"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Inception Media Group, is a technology-based digital video distribution service provider to film studios, television networks, video distributors and independent content owners. IDS offers a wide range of services including digital encoding, file restoration and repair, electronic packaging, secure high-speed content delivery, asset management and data storage.
IDS possesses certified delivery access to all major online, broadcast media and VOD platforms including iTunes (domestic and international), Amazon, Netflix, Verizon, Sony Playstation, Microsoft Xbox, CinemaNow, InDemand, Comcast, Echostar, Blockbuster, Hulu and Vudu. In the last 3 years IDS has encoded and delivered over 4000 movies, concerts, comedy specials and episodic television programs to these leading digital platforms. IDS is the largest single technical provider to iTunes with over 25% of the iTunes Film library processed through our system.
The IDS philosophy is to provide highly customized and scalable solutions for our customers. We firmly believe that there is no one encoder for all codec's. Our facility incorporates the best encoding and trans-coding solutions available and includes a wide array of both hardware and software based workflows. These internally designed workflows allow the IDS business to be extremely scalable. We utilize top quality AJA based ingestion hardware, Inlet HD trans-coding nodes along with a variety of other distributive trans-coding farms including Rhozet, Compressor and Episode Engine.
Our customized build out approach and service has been contracted by a number of major platforms including VEOH, VUDU, ZillionTV, and Dishnetwork/Echostar. For each of these clients we facilitated turnkey solutions from content aggregation, tape based ingestion services, proprietary trans-coding farms, QC verification and ultimately high volume transport directly to their data centers. Unlike the majority of our competitors, our facility was designed with an IT/IP based infrastructure and does not have the post-production-based legacy overhead to contend with. This affords us the ability to focus our attention on digital technology while remaining extremely competitive in the marketplace.
Ingestion Services:
Depending on customer needs IDS can provide a wide array of achievable file formats including, ProRes HQ 4:2:2, Cineform Jpeg2000 or 10 bit uncompressed mezzanine files. All tape formats are accepted including HDCAMSR , D-5 and numerous SD based tape formats.
Trans-coding Services:
With over 25 separate platform deliverables, IDS can literally provide hundreds of different file formats and configurations based on optimized delivery requirements. Our trans-coding farms include high capacity WMV, Flash, H.264 and a variety of mobile and streaming configurations under 1 Mbps including “chunking” solutions for dynamic streaming needs.
For traditional VOD services, IDS also provides a number of providers with CableLabs specific encodes and H.264 broadcast transport streams ranging from 1.5 Mbps H.264 to 18 Mbps HD Mpeg 2 encodes. In addition to the direct to consumer delivery specifications, our specialty has been high quality mezzanine file delivery with typical bit
rates of 50 Mbps for SD up to 240 Mbps HD file formats.
QC/QA:
Based on the needs of our clients and required levels of file quality, IDS can provide a wide range of QC services including frame-by-frame BATON stream analysis, Semaphore file inspection and ultimately a comprehensive end-to-end audio/visual QC. As an ASPERA facility we can provide pre-ingestion analysis of any files sent directly to our servers from third party providers insuring that source materials are compliant prior to any actual trans-coding being conducted on source files.
File Restoration/Repair:
IDS provides advanced processing and a number of restoration tools to protect our clients content for digital distribution. A large number of broadcast masters contain artifacts and defects that can inhibit the ability to have the program accepted on some digital platforms. IDS routinely fixes these defects in the master and creates new clean sources for our clients.
New Technologies:
As an industry leader in encoding and electronic distribution services, IDS provides our clients the option to delivery to any format needed. Our newest services include 3D encoding and Multiplexing for DirecTV and through an exclusive technology partnership with Zoo Digital now offers complete iTunes Extra and iTunes LP package development and delivery.
Digital Delivery Services:
As stated above, IDS is an approved provider for over 25 major platforms including CableLabs specific encoding for satellite and cable VOD. Our delivery service includes metadata, artwork, chapter/commercial breaks and high bandwidth Aspera delivery into all of our platform partners. Based on delivery needs we can provide from 100 Mbps to multiple 1Gbps connectivity.
Digital Distribution:
Although our primary services are technology based, IDS can assist producers and distribution partners with direct access into a number of digital platforms including iTunes Films. Our parent company's direct aggregation status provides “placement as a service” to those clients looking for a complete digital distribution solution including financial reporting and payment processing.
Storage and Long Term Digital Asset Management:
Our facility offers a direct cross-connect into the ISWEST datacenter, one of the largest in Southern California . We provide free ongoing storage for all titles that are in current delivery cycles. Long term storage of archival titles is also available. Through our partnership with FilmTrack, content owners have a web based asset management tool that shows the current status of all assets under the IDS Management System. This invaluable tool also shows where the title has been placed and the current status on that platform.
